What is Psychonauts PKG Dumper?
A program that enables you to dump the contents of .pkg files as found in both the full and demo versions of the excellent game Psychonauts.
It will work with both the pc and xbox versions. For the xbox version though you'll obviously have to get the .pkg file onto your pc.
About .pkg files.
A .pkg file is a bundle file that contains many other files. It is used in all versions of psychonauts and contains various file types, these are listed below:
* .asd = Unknown.
* .atx = Unknown.
* .cam = Unknown.
* .dds = Image files - use the Windows texture viewer or Photoshop plugin from this page to view/edit them.
* .dfs = Unknown.
* .eve = Unknown.
* .h = C header files.
* .hlps = Unknown.
* .ini = Standard ini file.
* .jan = Unknown.
* .lpf = Lua Packed File - a packed lua script or a lua script with an added header?
* .lua = Lua script.
* .pba = Unknown.
* .plb = Unknown.
* .psh = Unknown.
* .vsh = Unknown.
Things to note.
1) When the files are dumped the different filetypes are separated into separate folders. E.g. a 'dds folder is created and all the .dds files are placed in it.
2) Some files in the .pkg have the same name. When this happens the new file has_ appended to it. E.g. if 'myfile' exists then '0_myfile' is used as a name instead.
3) The xbox .pkg file is compressed so the dumper decompresses it first, this takes a little extra time.
What do I need to use this?
You will need the .pkg file and about 200mb of disk space for the dumped files.
How to use it.
1) Click 'Dump files', browse to the Psychonauts folder on your hard drive.
2) Select the .pkg file and click open. Then select a folder to save the new files to.
