What is to be a glorious summer of Psychonauts content updates begins with the addition of the w.i.p. enemies section, detailing the game's many foes.
Ryan pulls the venerable Tim Schafer away from the excitement of Psychonauts' impending release for a few seconds, and asks him three brief (read: long) questions about the game and himself.
Bad news for European minions.
After getting in contact with Majesco for confirmation, it looks like Amazon's listed release date for Europe is in actual fact completely false -- the game is not going to be ready until quarter four 2005 (October-December). This is due to the localisation (translating of text and speech), which takes an understandably irregular amount of time in games such as Psychonauts because, "there is so much dialog", as Majesco say.

For those crazy Europeans who have developed a fluent understanding of the English language due to new-age, high-tech "tutoring" in educational institutions, or the British Psychonauts enthusiasts out there, there's still the option of just importing the game from the US. I have done it myself from GameStop, being British, and it arrived speedily and without any issues to speak of.

I knew this would happen... =(

Why do they need to translate the game, anyway? I'm sure their target audience would understand the game perfectly as it is.

Well, I'll wait. Want the Xbox version and there's the PAL-thingy there. Guess that means that I'll be buying Conker and possible Donkey Konga 2 now in June/July instead...

Just a note, I ordered mine from the Double Fine store and it came... well, when they sais it would, but it arrived about a day after shipping and they have started shipping a lot more now. Just a thought as they also ship overseas.

Yes, we, the people of Europe, all speak the difficult language called Europeanian. It mostly consists of grunts...

What I mean is that the game is going to be translated into German and French. Perhaps a few other languages, too, but countries like Britain do not need translation (and some countries like Finland don't usually have translation) so I really don't understand why ALL of Europe must wait... But that's the way it always is.

I Agree with deadworm222. Besides, when games like Psychonauts are translated, about 50 % of the jokes disappears. Like "Basic Braining" for example. Of course it could be translated but it wouldn't make you smile like it did in the nontranslated version.

It's the same thing with movies. I recently watched the film "Anchorman" with subtitles on and I can imagine how lame it would be if you wouldn't understand a single word in english.

This is kind of pathetic. Teh internets is not a new thing and yet companies have failed to adapt. They're losing money money each time an impatient kid decides to just download their product not to mention the local vendors who lose business each time a person orders from an online website in another country. It's even worse with movies.

A Q4 release is going to be better for the game itself. As long as they go for an early Q4 release (end Sep / Early Oct) I can see the game racking up bigger sales than a midsummer launch. Software sales in the UK absolutley die in the summer and only BIG name titles like GTA:SA (PC/Xbox) can hope to get the same level of sales that a Q4 release would get them, for smaller titles which Psychonauts is a Q4 release is a wise decision.
From a European point of view the best thing we can do is to force feed our friends the Demo and if they like it frog march them to a store to as about the game, the more the stores get asked about it the higher up their priority list it will go and that will result in a better in-store position when the game does eventually come out.

"Psychonauts will be released in Europe this year. Most likely Oct 04"

Does that mean October the 4th, or is it a slip up between 2004 and 2005?
